Join a Photo tour to Photograph the Rice Harvest in Vietnam

My name is John Burton, I'm retired and a passionate photographer who lives in west Wales, UK. In 2024 I travelled twice to Vietnam, the second time to specifically photograph the rice harvest in the north west of the country. In doing so I met a fabulous local guide who was able to arrange access to a number of sites and people. Such a trip has to be timed. as far as possible, to when the rice is ripe which will be around the third week of August. Whilst by no means an adventure trip you would need to be able to sit on the back of a motorbilke to get to some of the remoter sites.

Travel will be via a minibus (except where we need to be on the back of motorbikes to get to remote photo locations!) and group size will be limited to a maximum of six people together with a driver, local English speaking guide. myself and my wife. Where possible the tour will have some early starts and evenings to take 'advantage of the 'Golden hour'. In addidtion we will be stopping wherever we see something of interest such as local markets etc. Much of the tour decisions day to day will be at the wishes of the group.

In several places there will be unique photoshoots with local minority peoples. Further details and itinerary will be availanle in due course. But if you have a serious interest do not hesitate to get in touch to discuss further. This would be a unique opportunity to travel with a small gtoup of others to photograph the 'real Vietnam'. Pricing will include good mid range accommodation, transport and breakfasts. The quide will be with us from arrival at Hanoi airport until departure. Lunch, dinner and tips are not included.

About Me

I am a retired Environmental Health Officer and my wife a retired doctor. Since retiring I started travelling a lot and took up photography. Amongst my achievements I won The Renaissance Photography Prize (beginners luck?). I am a long term member of Dinefwr Photographic Society here in South West Wales.

After my last trip to Vietnam the local guide suggested running a trip for a small group of photographers. Hence this little website. If anyone is interested I will put you in touch and we'll see if we can put a trip together for upto about 6 people. This would take place towards the end of August 2025. I will not be making any remuneration from the trip but do hope to accompany it from the UK to give reassurance to all participants.
